Title I Parent Information
Title I is an abbreviation for Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001.
Title I is the national's largest federal assistance program for schools. Title I provides reading and/or math assistance for students who must accelerate their progress to perform at or near grade level.
The Title I program is designed to provide students with extra help in an effort to bring their academic skills to the high, challenging academic standard needed to be successful in school.
Title I funding is based on a formula which involves the number of low-income families within a school. Although schools qualify on the basis of this count, Title I students are not chosen based upon income. Title I students are chosen based upon educational need.
Students are generally selected to participate in the Title I Program in the fall of each school year. Teachers can also refer students who are experiencing reading and/or math difficulties in the classroom. The teacher will consider the student's classroom performance, various benchmark assessment scores, the student's PSSA scores. The School's Intervention Specialist then assesses the reading and/or math needs of the child.
Using all this information, final decisions are made. Once accepted into the program, each student's performance is periodically assessed. Students may enter and/or exit the program throughout the school year. Students are dismissed from the program when indicators show that students have reached a consistent proficiency level in reading and/or math.

Math tutoring sessions are held on Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Reading tutoring sessions are held on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
After School Achievers Students in grades 3 through 8 will have the opportunity to enroll in a new after-school program called After School Achievers. Students are selected based upon academic scores on benchmark assessments, PSSA scores, and teacher recommendation. Parents can sign up students for multiple sessions throughout the year starting in October. Math tutoring sessions are held on Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Reading tutoring sessions are held on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Students will rotate among stations each week to get help with reading and math skills. This is not PSSA prep! Tutors will strive to teach students what they are lacking in the classroom. Students will spend part of their time with the teacher and part of the time working with peers and working independently. We will utilize a variety of materials, such as computer web sites, games and the School Library.
