Charter School Pursuing Green Flag School Designation

Initial Focus on Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Bear Creek Community Charter School recently joined the Green Flag Program for Environmental Leadership in Schools. The program's purpose is to educate students from grades K-12 on environmental issues that commonly effect schools. With each positive step that a school takes, the program gives awards to the school and students, culminating in the presentation of the Green Flag Award for Environmental Leadership in a specific program area.

The program allows students—working with parents, teachers and school administrators— the opportunity to learn about their school environment by reviewing a school's programs in areas such as: indoor air quality, recycling, use of non-toxic products and pest management without use of toxic chemicals.

Parent Volunteers Welcome! We continue to look for meaningful ways to involve parents in school activities. Even if you don't have a great deal of time to spare, opportunities await you to have a positive impace on our school and the education of our children! We are always seeking parents with an interest in conservation and environmental stewardship to assist us in undertaking our environmental initiatives. We thank those who have already stepped forward! If you would like to volunteer your time, please e-mail Mrs. Paula Longo

Recycling Efforts Continue Students, staff and parents continue to support the School's recycling and "upcycling" programs. Students are actively involved in the day-to-day operation of these programs. There are still opportunities for parents to become involved. Our efforts include the following:

• Printer Toner Recycling
• Aluminum & Plastic Recycling
• Cardboard Recycling
• Paper Recycling
• Juice Pouches
• Frito Lay Snack Bags

In addition to reducing landfill space, the School also receives a small amount of funding from the "upcycling" efforts along with the printer toner recycling. To learn how you can help with little or no effort, Click Here.
